My America
India Ink on paper
Especially of late, I have felt America is forgetting we are a country of diverse people, and that is not only what our country has been built on, but it is also what makes us great.
There is a beauty in diversity. Diversity of culture, color, heritage, spirituality, religion, pasts, intellectualism, abilities, life journeys… Too many seem to have forgotten this.
While this piece is inclusive of many Peoples in our country, it is intentionally not fully inclusive—much like our current culture in the United States. Some people are considered more valuable or important solely because the color of their skin, their religion, their sexual orientation, their gender…
My hope is that one day we will find ourselves in an America where we are non-judgmental and accepting of each other.
An America where everyone will be Heard.
Equal.
Honored.
Celebrated.
United.
An America where people do not require others to share their beliefs as a prerequisite for Respect. An America where we lift each other up, instead of finding reasons to put others down in order to feel our own worth.
We are unique individuals, imperfectly perfect.
