Hear My Voice

Acrylic on Canvas

Depression can be debilitating and painful, literally like you’re bound with your mouth sewn shut. Pulling oneself up by the bootstraps is impossible.  It can be hard to function, sometimes hard to even get out of bed, hard to take care of oneself, hard to find joy in the things one might normally find joy in, and it can be even harder to ask for help due to fear of not being heard and being dismissed.

I am fortunate in that I have taken the risks of asking for help and have found support. With psychotherapy, evolving medication management, and self-care, I get to a functionable state again.  Mental Health is Brain Health.

Just as it’s ok to be hospitalized after being hit by a car, It’s OK to seek hospitalization for mental health needs. Just as it’s ok to be put on medication for an infection, it’s OK to take medication to improve your mental health.  It does not mean you’re weak, it simply means you’re human.
